Open Play Activities

Hantis

Played with four tables, a tennis ball, and four players, Hantis is a fun, fast-paced game were players must use any part of their body to strike the ball – mainly hands, head and feet – at the opposing team’s tables.

Cornhole

Cornhole is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bags of corn (or bean bags) at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Play continues until a team or player reaches (or exceeds) the score of 21.

9 Square in the Air

Nine Square in the Air is a very elaborate version of the game four square: the goal being to get the people in the other squares out in order to move up into the ‘nine square’, also called center, server, or king square.

Gaga Pit

Gaga is a fast paced, high energy sport played in an octagonal pit. The more players the better! Dubbed a kinder gentler version of dodge ball, the game is played with a soft foam ball, and combines the skills of dodging, striking, running, and jumping, while trying to hit opponents with a ball below the knees.

Spikeball

Spikeball is an intense game that is played 2 on 2. It’s sort of a funky combo of four square and volleyball. A taut Hula Hoop-sized net is placed at ankle level between a pair of two-player teams. You smack the palm-sized ball down on the net so it ricochets up at your opponents.

Ultimate Frisbee

Ultimate Frisbee is a team sport in which players seek to score points by passing a Frisbee to a teammate over the opposing team’s goal line.

Racquetball (Costs $2 a person to the university)

Racquetball is a racquet sport played with a hollow rubber ball in an indoor or outdoor court. Unlike most racquet sports, such as tennis and badminton, there is no net to hit the ball over, and, unlike squash, no tin (out of bounds area at the bottom of front wall) to hit the ball above. Also, the court’s walls, floor, and ceiling are legal playing surfaces, with the exception of court-specific designated hinders being out-of-bounds.

Oversized Board Games

Yahtze, Scrabble Jenga, Dominos, and Connect Four games that are much larger than the average board game!

Board Games

Check out Dutch Blitz, Cranium, Apples to Apples, or Ticket to Ride from the bookstore.

Disc Golf

Disc golf is a flying disc sport in which players throw a disc at a target using rules similar to golf. Disc Golf is often played on a course of 9 or 18 holes and players complete a hole by throwing a disc from a tee area toward a target and throwing again from the landing position of the disc until the target is reached. Players seek to complete a course in the lowest number of total throws.

The Dropbox

It is a heart-wrenching exploration of the physical, emotional and financial toll associated with providing refuge to orphans that would otherwise be abandoned on the streets. But The Drop Box movie is also a story of hope—a reminder that every human life is sacred and worthy of love.

Unstoppable

In Unstoppable, a documentary, Kirk Cameron takes you on a personal and inspiring journey to better understand the biggest doubt-raiser in faith: Why? Kirk goes back to the beginning—literally—as he investigates the origins of good and evil and how they impact our lives … and our eternities. Reminding us that there is great hope, Unstoppable creatively asks—and answers—the age-old question: Where is God in the midst of tragedy and suffering?

Freshman university student Josh Wheaton attends a philosophy class, where the uncompromising Professor Radisson requires all students to submit a signed statement that the “God is dead” and never existed. When Josh refuses due to his own Christian beliefs, the Professor challenges him to defend his position that his god, Yahweh, is real, leading to a series of confrontational presentations between himself and the professor, with the class as jury. Josh’s plans to go to law school depend on not failing this class. Josh’s girlfriend urges him not to throw away his future with this pointless act of defiance. At the same time, Pastor Dave and African missionary Jude attempt to leave town on a trip, but are hindered by comical accidents.
